My Background

I have been working in the historic and environmental conservation sectors for over twenty five years, following an apprenticeship in metal fabrication and manufacturing in the 1990s. Over this time, I have amassed a wealth of experience as well as a love of traditional crafts and materials; learning from many highly skilled craftspeople and academics, and working on some of the most famous sites in the UK and beyond- including Kenilworth Castle and Blenheim Palace, as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Avebury and Pompeii. I have a particular interest in domestic and vernacular buildings, and have worked on many industrial, urban, and rural buildings across England and Wales. Today, I work with a group of highly experienced professionals who each complement my own knowledge and bring over a Century of practical experience between them Together, we offer conservation and repair services for:

  • Stone work, including repointing
  • Dry Stone walling
  • Lime and traditional mortar and render
  • Ironwork- repair, restoration, and new installation
  • Timber
  • Drainage (including land drainage)
  • Hedging and Fencing- Hedgelaying, Split Pale/ Cleft,  and Park/ Estate Fencing
  • Landscaping and planting schemes
  • Ecological survey, habitat restoration and conservation
  • We also offer full advisory and design services, as well as support for planning, listed building, and scheduled monument consent applications

Away from this work, I continue to teach (and learn) at a wide range of institutions, and can often be found at the University of Oxford where I run courses in the historic environment through the Department of Continuing Education.
